MASSAGE THERAPY AND BODY WORK AT AMA FITNESS CENTER

Doug Warner, Massage TherapistDouglas Warner, B.A. M.S., L.M.T., (MA 18608), NASM CPT

Doug has been a Florida Licensed Massage Therapist for 16 years and a member of the AMA team for the past 11 years. Doug is certified in Swedish Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Thai Medical Massage, and is a Massage Therapy instructor. In order to enhance his bodywork skills, Doug recently became a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Neuromuscular Therapy is a deep tissue approach to body work which focuses on relieving the symptoms of muscular skeletal dysfunction due to injury, postural distortion, or repetitive misuse of the body. Thai Medical Massage, the traditional massage of Thailand, is a unique approach in which the client remains clothed in work out clothing, as in Yoga, while the massage is performed on the floor on a futon. Thai Massage utilizes massage, acupressure, and passive stretching techniques, and is very popular at AMA.

The benefits of Massage Therapy are many.

These include:
  • Relief of pain due to certain injuries, postural distortions or repetitive misuse of the body.
  • Increased range of motion at the joints and increased flexibility.
  • Assistance in injury prevention.
  • Stimulation of circulation of blood and lymph which enhances the immune system.
  • Stress relief and relaxation, stimulating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system --(the relaxation response).
  • Improved posture.
  • Faster recovery from exercise.

In addition to Massage Therapy...
Doug offers Flexibility Training classes, utilizing techniques from Yoga and Sports Medicine. These are small group classes, consisting of two to four people. This allows for a focused session where Doug can concentrate on the clients’ specific needs with a high degree of individual attention. Visit our NEW Yoga page and learn more about our small, personalized, group Yoga classes!

A unique feature at AMA Fitness...
is how Massage Therapy, Personal Training, Yoga, and Pilates are often used in conjunction with each other to treat the “whole” client. With the Massage Therapist and the trainers working closely together, a total fitness protocol can be composed, addressing the client’s specific needs.
